“My prescription is at another pharmacy. Why can’t you just fill it here?”
It’s a question we hear often, and we understand why it can be confusing. If your doctor already wrote the prescription, it seems like any pharmacy should be able to fill it.
There’s just one extra step: the prescription needs to be transferred to the pharmacy you’d like to use.
The good news? In many cases, we can help take care of that for you!
Why Is a Transfer Needed?
When your doctor sends a prescription electronically, it goes to a specific pharmacy. That pharmacy maintains the prescription record, including the directions and remaining refills.
If you decide you’d rather fill it somewhere else, the new pharmacy needs a valid prescription on file before dispensing your medication.
That’s where a prescription transfer comes in.
If your prescription is eligible for transfer and has refills remaining, we can request the necessary information from your current pharmacy. Once the transfer is complete, we can move forward with getting your prescription ready.
What If My Prescription Can’t Be Transferred?
Sometimes a prescription doesn’t have any refills remaining or has additional transfer requirements.
If that happens, don’t worry, we’ll let you know what the next step is. Depending on the situation, we may need a new prescription from your prescriber, or your prescriber may be able to send a new prescription directly to us.
